Mr. Alan D. Sharpley passed away Sunday, October 24th, at the age of 74. Alan is survived by his wife, Ann Lynn Sharpley; daughter Kristin Dawn
Duane, her husband Jason of Kingwood, TX and grandchildren Jacob and
Kindal; siblings Robert C. Sharpley and wife Carla of Chapin, SC, Karla
Dopslauf and husband Keith of Franklin TX, stepfather Gerry Dhooge of La
Grange, TX.

Alan was born December 21, 1946, in Chicago IL, to Robert C. Sharpley and
Katherine Beatrice Dunn Sharpley. He married Ann in 1995 in Austin TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Katherine Jan
Ignatious, and his son Michael Alan Sharpley. Alan served with the U.S. Army. He proudly graduated with a BA and an MA in Psychology from University of Texas with emphasis on statistics. He worked for Tracor as a psychologist and eventually formed a company named Dynastat with partners Ira Panzer & Dr William Voiers, which
specialized in Subjective Testing and Evaluation of Voice Communications
Systems. In this area, Dynastat developed into one of the most prestigious
Testing Groups in the world in this realm, and Alan served on many United
Nations committees to develop testing relevant to both defense and private
sectors. Alan also had another passion in his life. He played rugby for over 20 years
for Austin Blacks Rugby and dedicated over 40 years of his life to service for his beloved club. He became involved with USA Rugby at the Competitions Committee level and served for many years working to develop the club competition as we know it across the country. He coached and mentored thousands of young men throughout his career and had a positive effect on the lives of all of them through rugby. Per his wishes, Alan will be cremated. Memorial services will be announced as they are organized. Memorial contributions may be made to Austin Blacks Rugby, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, or the charity of one's choice.
