Allison Rutherford Smith, loving father, grandfather and child of the living God, formerly of Comfort, Texas went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. "Cowboy," as he was known to his friends was born on December 18, 1919 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Lula Carrol and Robert Forrest Smith. He was married to Emma Smith on December 21, 1938 to 1994.
Al Smith served in the Navy, was an avid hunter and loved reading Zane Grey books. He retired from being a plumbing contractor in Houston, Texas and moved to the Texas Hill Country. After retiring to Comfort, he retired once again and started enjoying the RV lifestyle traveling around the country but living in Lakewood, New Mexico. Al had a great passion for western swing dancing and loved listening to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. He traveled throughout Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico driving himself attending the western swing dances up until this year. He was blessed to have many faithful friends in New Mexico and Fredericksburg, Texas.
Al was very active in Second Christian Church in Houston, Texas for many years serving as an elder in the church, before retiring to Comfort. He was also contractor and member for Faith Christian Church in Kerrville. Al was blessed to have good health and presence of mind throughout his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Connelly and her husband, Ronald Connelly, four granddaughters, Rhonda Tuck and husband Reggie Tuck, Barbee Shear, Katheryn Connelly and Lisa Mayo, great grandchildren, Cody Tuck and wife Ashley Tuck, Travis Tuck, Mason Tuck, Lauren Shear, Lindsey Laude and husband Nick Laude, Leah Wyckoff and husband Rob Wyckoff, Leslie Shear, Hannah Mayo, Abby Mayo, Faith Mayo and Kaelyn Connelly and great great grandchildren, Kennedy Shear, Benjamin Troester and William Tuck.
A memorial service with military honors will be held Monday, December 19th, at 2 p.m., in Oak Hill Church of Fredericksburg.
