Alva Jean Wagner was born in Houston, Texas, June 19, 1931, to Cecil Dewitt Wagner and Ruby Eugenia Massey Wagner. She died in Boerne, Texas, October 4, 2019, at the age of 88 while living at Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs senior living community. She is survived by her brother, Donald Eugene Wagner, who lives in McKenna, Washington and two nieces and a nephew: Donna Wagner, Carrollton, Texas; Karen Kay, McKenna, Washington; and Jay Wagner, Yukon, Oklahoma. She has six great nieces and nephews and two great greats.

Alva graduated from Pasadena High School in Pasadena, Texas, in 1950. She worked for her aunt, Mary Kay, at Mary Kay Cosmetics in her early working days. She was employed by Diamond Shamrock for 30 years and retired in 1986 as administrative manager of the Houston sales office.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Texas for over 32 years. She taught junior-high youth in Sunday School for 15 years and a senior ladies class many years. She served as chairman of the building committee to build the current Worship Center of First Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Texas. She was treasurer of the church  for a time and served on many church committees.

Alva did volunteer work at the Hill Country Community Needs Council in Fredericksburg as financial advisor to those in need. This was the job that gave her the greatest pleasure—helping and advising those in need. The policy of the Needs Council was for the financial advisors not to give personal gifts to the clients, but Alva could be seen going in to work  with a pocket full of HEB gift cards and leaving with none. She loved giving hugs to the clients saying often that was the most appreciated gesture.

Alva could be described as organized, in control and very generous. There was never any clutter in Alva's space! Working in her flower beds was a passion. She would want you to know that accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age was the greatest decision of her life. She lived every day loving her Lord Jesus and seeking to serve Him.

If you knew Alva, you certainly knew that she was a sports fan—especially an Astros baseball fan. She was a faithful fan through many losing years but in 2017 was able to watch every pitch as they won the World Series for the first time.  When she wasn't watching baseball, she was reading books on her Kindle—mysteries and westerns. She has 968 books on her Kindle!

Alva will be missed by her family and many friends.

A celebration of Alva's life will take place 2 p.m., Saturday, October 12 ^th , at Morning Side Ministries at Menger Springs, 1150 Grand Blvd., Boerne. Graveside services will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
