Betty Wade Dodds Rachal passed away on October 26 ,2016 after a long illness, in
Fredericksburg, Texas.
Betty was born on January 5, 1926 in Austin, Texas to Clarence Edwin (C E) Wade and Lela Porter Wade. She spent her early years in Laredo, and Kingsville, Texas, where C E served as Superintendent of Kingsville Independent School District. Betty married Edwin Clair Dodds in Kingsville in 1946. They had three children Scott R. Dodds, John W. Dodds, and David F. Dodds, who presently reside in Kingsville and Fredericksburg.
Edwin Clair Dodds passed away in 1973, and Betty married D C Rachal in 1976, who passed away in 1993. Betty moved from Corpus Christi to Fredericksburg in 1995 where she has made her home since.
Betty had a long and productive life. She enjoyed travelling, her collections of rocks, Betty Boop Dolls, and house plants. She was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed setting her table full of great food for her family. She was an active supporter of the Fredericksburg Theater Company and a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer with the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, and was also known as the Picnic Queen of the Frio River.
Betty is survived by her three sons, six grandchildren, Ed Dodds, Seattle, Washington, Nathan Dodds, Austin, Josh Dodds, Austin, Todd Dodds, (Amy) of Belton, Traci Dodds, and Leah Dodds, both of Fredericksburg. Betty was also blessed with a great grandchild, Sawyer O Dodds of Belton. Betty is also survived by two step daughters, and five step grandchildren.
The family would like to especially thank Ms Esmeralda Sanchez, Fredericksburg, Texas who not only provided excellent care to Betty but loved her also. The staff of Windcrest Nursing and Rehab supported Betty in her final days, as did the Hill Country Memorial Hospice service.
Betty long ago expressed that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to either Memorial Presbyterian Church Fredericksburg, Texas or the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Fund, Fredericksburg, or one of a person's choice. Certain members of the family highly support and recommend The Kairos Prison Ministry International-Nicaragua Fund (www.kairosprisonministry.org}.
Services are entrusted to Fredericksburg Funeral Home, interment will be in Kingsville, Texas.
