Obituary

Brenda Joyce Doerre, 74, of Fredericksburg, Texas, passed away on November 5, 2026. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, sharp intellect, lifelong friendships, and willingness to serve others.

Brenda was born on September 29, 1952, in Tomball, Texas, to Vernon Edward Holderrieth and Alice Ruth Domel Holderrieth. She grew up alongside her sister, Marilyn, in a hardworking family that operated a gas station in the Klein community.

From an early age, Brenda learned the values of a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and family.

She graduated from Klein High School in 1970 as salutatorian of her class. She attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years before transferring to the University of Houston, where she earned a bachelor's degree in English and Journalism.

Brenda met her husband, Hal Doerre, while they were in high school and the two began a lifelong partnership when they were married on June 17, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Klein, Texas. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith and family.

In 1979, she began her teaching career at her alma mater, Klein High School, where she taught English and was the cheerleading sponsor for five years before continuing at Klein Forest High School. She left teaching when her son, Sean, was born in 1988, choosing to devote herself to raising her family.

After years in the Houston area, Brenda followed Hal as he fulfilled his dream of moving to the Texas Hill Country in 1994, settling on a ranch near Harper. They later moved to Fredericksburg and became members of Bethany Lutheran Church in 2003. In 2012, they relocated to Georgetown to be closer to Brenda's relatives and to Sean, who was working at Baylor University. They returned to Fredericksburg in 2020 to be near Sean and his growing family.

Brenda's greatest joys were her family and her role as Nana to her grandchildren, Reagan and Braden. She treasured reading with them, cooking together, taking them to feed the ducks at the park and going camping.

Faith was an important part of Brenda's life. She was baptized on October 19, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hufsmith, Texas, and confirmed on March 27, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She and Hal both came from generations of German Lutheran families. Throughout her life, she served church congregations as a Sunday school teacher, secretary and newsletter editor. At Bethany, she served on the Church Council and enjoyed the friendships of her monthly Bunco group, where her competitive spirit was well known.

Intelligent, inquisitive, organized, and thoughtful, Brenda loved reading, history, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy!, and finding treasures at garage sales and thrift stores. She enjoyed neighborhood walks, a good glass of red wine, and something sweet after dinner, especially dark chocolate.

She cherished traditions with family, particularly Thanksgiving gatherings at her parents' home in Hockley throughout the 1990s and 2000s. She also valued her lifelong friendships, including the close group of four couples known as the "Great 8," whose friendships extended back to high school.

Brenda is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Hal Doerre; her son, Sean Doerre, and daughter-in-law, Traci; her cherished grandchildren, Reagan and Braden Doerre; and extended family and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Alice Holderrieth, and her sister, Marilyn McShan.

Brenda will be remembered for her steadfast love, sharp mind, strong convictions, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. Her influence will live on through the family she loved and the countless lives she touched.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.
