Obituary

Carl Frederick Weden, of Fredericksburg, Texas, passed away on January 27, 2023 at the age of 93.

Carl was born September 5, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Carl H. Weden and Hester A Cosier Weden.  Carl met his wife Julia Louise Hartmann Weden at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas where he was one of three students from Ohio. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.  Carl and Julia married July 22, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas and celebrated their 71 st anniversary this last year.  Carl served two years as an auditor in the US Army Special Services.  After his military service, Carl worked for Balser and Davidson Public Accountants in Fredericksburg before beginning his 31 year career with Phillips Petroleum Company.  Carl retired as Manager of Business Services with Phillips Petroleum before returning to Texas Lutheran University as Director of Development, where he served for nearly six years.  Throughout his life, Carl served his home congregations in varying roles including as a council member, President, Treasurer, member of Stewardship, Finance and Long-term Planning Committees and as a member of the choir.

Carl was preceded in death by his son, Paul Frederick Weden, his brother, William C. Weden, and his parents, Carl H. Weden and Hester A Cosier Weden.

Carl is survived by his wife, Julia Louise Hartmann Weden of Fredericksburg, Texas, his sister Mary Jane Weden Lyons and her husband William of Columbus, Ohio, his sons Michael Lawrence-Weden and wife Rebecca of Kirby, Texas, Philip Carl Weden and wife Margie of Borger, Texas, David Alan Weden and wife Barbara of Buda, Texas and daughter-in-law, Audra Palmer Weden Locke (widow of Paul Weden) of Jourdanton, TX.  Carl is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many other extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas, beginning at 10:30am on Saturday, March 4, 2023.  The family will receive visitors at the church an hour before the service.

Memorials in celebration of Carl's life may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, TX or to the Harry and Cora Hartmann Scholarship Fund or Carl and Julia Weden Scholarship Fund at Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, TX.
