Charles J Sagebiel, devoted husband, beloved father/father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, trusted friend, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, entered the glorious presence of the Father on May 31, 2018.

He was born June 23, 1925 in Kansas City, MO.Approximately six weeks later, he was adopted by Arnhold F. Sagebiel and Lena M. Meyer of Fredericksburg, TX.  He attended school at Cave Creek School, Rheingold School and Fredericksburg High School while helping his family on the farm.

Charles was inducted into the US Army October, 1944 at Ft. Sam Houston. He was assigned to the 6 ^th Infantry Division, 63 ^rd Infantry Combat Regimental team with service in Luzon, thePhillipine Islands and Korea. With determination to make it home to the love of his life and by the grace of God, he earned the rank of Tech Sargent before returning home August, 1946.

Soon after he was discharged from Army service, he married Melitha A. Wilke, November 10, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stonewall TX. In June of 1950 Charles contracted Polio.Following intensive therapy,he attended Oklahoma A&M College earning a degree in drafting, where he was captain of the wheelchair basketball team for two years. His career began at Texas Power & Light (TXU) in Dallas, TX. He advanced to many supervisory and leadership roles within the company and retired after 34 years. Charles and Melitha made the decision to retire to his home place and move back to theCave Creek community of Fredericksburg November 1991.

Woodworking, fishing, hunting, traveling, barbequing and spending time with family and friends are just a few of his passions. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served as volunteer at the American Legion, VFW and Albert Community Club. Charles was also a member of Cave Creek Wildlife Management.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Melitha Sagebiel, sister Erna Sagebiel, brother John Sagebiel and daughter Karen Robinson. He will be lovingly missed by his daughterBarbara Gregory and daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Dan Gallini. And he will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren and their families, Josh, Rachel, Gina and Lexi Gallini;Lindsay, Marcio and Nicholas Nogueria; Laura and Tad Pontes;and Julie, Dan, Elliana, Eviana and Chandler Lewis.

It was the simple things around him in life that he never took for granted, often commenting how fortunate and grateful he was for all that God had provided to him and his family. Above all, Charles was absolutely devoted to his wife and family. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing.

The family invites you to join them on June 5 ^th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for visitation at Fredericksburg Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held on June 6 ^th at 10:00 a.m., also at Fredericksburg Funeral Home, interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
