Clara "Jeanette" Fields, a beacon of love and warmth, transitioned from this world on Monday, April 9th, 2024, enveloped in the embrace of her beloved family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 30, 1938, in Douglas, Arizona, the younger of two children of L.T. and Mary Lee Modrall, her journey unfolded with grace and purpose.

On December 30, 1965, Jeanette united in matrimony with her cherished soulmate and best friend, James "Jim" Fields, embarking on a shared adventure that saw the nurturing of four sons and one granddaughter. In 1983, Jeanette and Jim embraced a new chapter in Fredericksburg, TX, where Jeanette enjoyed a long career as a dedicated secretary for Dr. Dor W. Brown until her well-deserved retirement.  It was in this role that she formed lasting friendships with "the Brown girls" that continued up until her passing.

Jeanette found true joy in the presence of her cherished family, finding solace and fulfillment in the laughter and love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Renowned for her culinary prowess, Jeanette's kitchen was a haven of tantalizing aromas and cherished memories. Her love extended beyond her family to her fondness for animals, her passion for literature, crosswords, and her enjoyment of retail therapy, sharing moments of delight and discovery with those she held dear. In later years, Clara's spirit of adventure led her to explore the digital landscape, surprising her great-grandchildren as she embraced social media platforms with enthusiasm, showering them with love and affection through heartfelt comments and virtual hugs.

Jeanette now joins her beloved husband, Jim, along with those who preceded her in death: her parents, L.T. and Mary Lee Modrall; her son, Michael Fields; her grandson, Joshua Fields; and her granddaughter, Jessica Fields.

She is survived by three sons Richard Fields (Linda), Steve Fields, and John Fields, as well as her granddaughter whom she raised, Breezy Stanley (Todd).  She is also survived by her older brother, Wayne Modrall, grandchildren Ricky Fields (Leila), Meagan Fields, Ashley Fields (Austin), Chris Fields, Candace Fields, Jennifer Fields, Amanda Fields, Kari Andrews, Michelle Wander (Justin), and Robert Fields (Amanda), as well as a host of cherished great-grandchildren.

Though Jeanette's physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit of love, resilience, and boundless affection will continue to echo through the hearts of all who were touched by her gentle kindness. As we honor her memory, let us carry forward her legacy of love, embracing each moment with the same fervor and joy that Jeanette brought to every aspect of her life.  May Clara "Jeanette" Fields rest eternally in the embrace of heavenly peace, her spirit forever alive in the cherished memories of those she held dear.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to Hill Country Methodist Hospice in honor of Jeanette's enduring legacy of love and compassion.  Special thanks to the staff at Methodist Hospital Hill Country for the wonderful care and love she received up until her passing.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday April 13, 2024 at 2:00p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Fredericksburg with Pastor Bill Waddell officiating.
