CYNTHIA CECILE OESTREICH
Cindy Cecile Tatsch Oestreich passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the age of 83. Born March 2, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, to Werner and Anita Staudt Tatsch, of Fredericksburg, Texas, where Cindy spent most of her childhood. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through the seventh grade, then her family moved to San Antonio where she attended St. Marks Catholic School and graduated from Edison High School in 1961.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Rodney Ray Oestreich of Pipe Creek, formerly of Fredericksburg where he grew up; sister-in-law, Patti Oestreich of Yancey; numerous other family members and friends who will all miss her warm, infectious smile.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Werner ‘Tim’ Tatsch; and her precious daughter, Dawn Hamilton, born during Cindy’s first marriage to Pat Hamilton. On May 16,1982, at the age of 18, Dawn tragically drowned when her pickup truck was swept downstream by floodwaters near Babcock and Leon Creek in San Antonio.
In 1984, Rod was enjoying a night out at a popular club in San Antonio when he asked a young lady to dance with him. He remembers thinking she looked familiar and was surprised to discover they both considered Fredericksburg their home, and as children, they had lived just a few blocks from each other. They both felt they were destined to be together, so on September 29, 1984, marriage vows were exchanged in Boerne, Texas.
While she enjoyed a wonderful career with USAA, retiring after 35 years, Cindy and Rod made their home in Pipe Creek where she proved to be a natural horsewoman. They began training beautiful Peruvian Pasos, but her greatest joy was accompanying Rod on the many trips to show their horses, bringing home numerous ribbons and various awards. Rod noted that to watch Cindy ride and to see how comfortable she had become in the saddle, it was hard to believe she had once been afraid of horses.
For over four decades, Cindy and Rod had a wonderful life together, sharing their love of horses, and making good friends along the roads they traveled. She will be remembered as a tremendous source of happiness and who always displayed a positive outlook.
Fredericksburg Funeral Home, located at 2278 South US Hwy. 87 in Fredericksburg, has arranged for visitation on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, beginning at noon, followed by funeral services at 2 pm. Deacon Paul Cassetta officating.
A private interment where she will be peacefully laid to rest beside her parents, brother, and daughter, will be at a later date in the Lockehill Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
