David Lawrence Cooney of Fredericksburg passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2024 at the age of 68. He was born on March 19, 1956 in Shreveport, LA to Elmer Lawrence and Sally Johnston Cooney. David began his career in construction in Sugarland, Tx. He married the love of his life, Deborah "Lynne" Cooney, in April 1980 in Las Vegas. He continued in construction throughout the years they lived in Sugarland. In 1993, David and his family moved to Hillsboro, Tx for Lynne to start a new job as a teacher at a local ISD. David continued with construction work in Hillsboro until the untimely death of his wife Lynne in 1997, when he retired. David lived a brief time in Waco, Tx before moving to Fredericksburg in 2010. In Fredericksburg, David fulfilled his love for socializing as a tour bus driver. Through this role, David met many people and developed life-long friendships. David never met a stranger and through his knowledge in many areas, always had something to contribute to any conversation. David was a giving person who was always willing to help someone in need. He enjoyed taking walks with his beloved dog, Lexi, and visiting the local Dog Park daily. He also enjoyed visiting his son, Stephen, and grandchildren in Waco as frequently as possible. In the recent weeks, he was excited to watch his grandchildren play in sporting events and spend quality time with them in Waco.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne Cooney, who passed away in 1997. David is survived by his children Patricia Lynn Reed, her husband Rico, and grandchildren Casey, Jorgie, and Riley of Houston; and Stephen Lawrence Cooney and grandchildren Anabelle, Abigail and Austin Cooney of Waco.

David's departure comes as a great shock and is gravely felt by his family and countless friends. Per David's wishes, he will be cremated with a private family service later.
