Dennis William Lange passed away peacefully on Friday evening September 4, 2020 at the age of 88 in the Knopp Assisted Living and Memory Care.

He was born on July 29, 1932 in Doss Texas in Gillespie County to Emil F. Lange and Olivia Geistweidt Lange. He married his first love Shirley Schnerr at Edison Street Methodist in Fredericksburg on May 8, 1955.

He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in the Class of 1949. He enjoyed baseball and football. He attended school for the first 11 years in Doss. Dennis loved baseball and was on the 1961 Hill Country League Champions for Pat's Club. He also played in Church leagues and received a Batting Champion Trophy in 1958.

He loved to go deer hunting with family and friends, there are lots of memories he treasured when he would go to the Colorado mountains for mule deer.

Dennis along with others started the Doss Volunteer Fire Department. These men all volunteers knew what this community needed and it is still strong, going forward to help whenever they are needed.

Being a Boy Scout Scoutmaster was a challenge but he had fathers of these young boys who pitched in and turned out to be very successful time in everyone's lives. In the 70's Doss troop 132 combined with Harper Troop 139 and was also successful. Parent supported the leaders and their sons. Dennis received many rewards as Scoutmaster, Eagle Scout, and the Silver Beaver Award were very important to him.

Besides being a rancher at 3 different locations he was employed by Gillespie County as a road-hand and foreman for 32 years then after retirement he cut grass at the Gillespie County Airport for 13 years.

In the 50's he served in the Army for 2 years, stationed in El Paso TX. Before he was drafted, he received a letter from the Chicago Cubs for and interview, he was thrilled then two days later he received a notice to enter the Army and serve his country during the Korean Conflict.

Dennis and Shirley enjoyed flying to Seward Alaska to see their son Jason 2 different times it was in the summer but he said it was still cold for an old man.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley Lange, daughter Peggy Crenwelge and husband Clyde of Doss, son Jason Lange and wife Rhonda of Seward AK; grandchildren Donna Kay and Ben Maxwell of Doss, Ross and Shanna Crenwelge of Harper, J. W. Lange and family, Lindsey Lange of Houston, and step grandchildren Derrick and Maile Branson of Seward AK; and Kendra Branson a friend in Seward AK; great grandchildren are Nicole Elizabeth and Liam Maxwell, Kimberly and Hayden Crenwelge; nephew James Lange of Fredericksburg, nieces Debbie Lange of Austin and Devona Grobe of Fredericksburg; sisters-in-law Dorothy Schmidt of Fredericksburg, niece Sherry Schmidt Wende and family of Lockhart; nephew Stephen Schmidt and family of Boerne.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Emil and Olivia Lange, brothers and their wives Howard and Emma Lange, Roy and Doris Lange, and his only sister Dorothy Lange.
