Obituary

Donnie Ann Newsom Burgner, daughter of the late William Dunovant and Annie Lee Newsom, passed away peacefully, comforted by family, on 8/17/2018 in her adopted hometown, of Fredericksburg Texas. She was 81 years old.

Donnie was raised in San Antonio and Houston, Texas from which she had many extended family members and lifelong friendships.

During her years as a student at the University of Houston she met her devoted husband, John, married, and settled down to raise her three children.

Donnie and John had a yearning for travel and adventure that took them, and their children, on many an epic road trip throughout North America. They have driven as far north as Alaska in the west, Labrador in the east, and as far south as the country of Panama. They have visited all states of the US, most of the provinces of Canada, and all the countries of Central America.

Once they had exhausted the lengths of the North American continent, they set their sights on more ambitious travels, and moved to Dhahran in Saudi Arabia. This enabled them to travel the world, seldom leaving their children behind.

Upon returning to the United States they settled in Fredericksburg, Texas where Donnie set about being active in her church, Holy Ghost Lutheran, as well as the The Community Needs Council. She was proud to serve her community as a Stephen's Minister and she cherished her bonds with her Lydia circle and Emmaus group.

Donnie had a cheerful disposition and a welcoming smile that people naturally warmed to. She genuinely loved people and saw so much good in the world around her.

Donnie's love of travel continued up until her death with various trips throughout United States and Europe. Her most recent trip abroad was in May to visit her son in-law's family in Wales.

She is survived by her husband, John Burgner, spanning 59 year of marriage, her son Bruce Burgner ( Troy Christensen ) daughters, Brenda Burgner  ( Herbert Jones ) Betty Burgner

( Kevin Wornham ) brother, Bill Newsom ( Joan Newsom ) step grandchildren, Andrew, Laura and Dylan Kolhoff, as well as numerous extended cousins and their descendants.

She is predeceased by her beloved dogs, Bingo, Baxter and Becky.

In lieu of flowers Donnie has requested that donations may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Hill Country Community Needs Council, Misión De Candelilla or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the healthcare providers at Hill Country Memorial Hospital for their unfailing kindnesses, the Pastoral staff of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church for their selflessness and generosity, and the numerous friends and family, far and wide, that reached out to offer comfort in so many kind and thoughtful ways.

Peace be upon her as she embarks on her next adventure to Heaven.

Donnie's family will greet friends 10-11 a.m., Saturday August 25 th , in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, with a celebration of her life following at 11:00 with Rev. Bobby Vitek officiating.
