Doris May Lange, the daughter of Herbert Crenwelge and Mathilda Langerhans Crenwelge, was born on November 4, 1933, in Gillespie County, Texas.
Doris passed away on October 16, 2016 at 10:38 a.m. in Fredericksburg, at the age of 82.
Doris was baptized in Dallas as a Lutheran and was confirmed in Brownwood in May, 1949. She graduated from Early High School, Brownwood, Texas in 1952 as Valedictorian.

On May 16, 1954, she married Roy Emil Lange at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with Rev. L.J. Durkop officiating. Roy preceded Doris in death on November 25, 1979.

She is survived by her son, James W. Lange and daughter-in-law Cynthia Lange of Fredericksburg; her daughter, Debbie Lange of College Station; grandchildren-Michelle Lange of Fredericksburg and Bryan J. and April Lange and great granddaughter Caitlin Lange of New Braunfels.
In addition to Roy, Doris was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Crenwelge and Mathilda Langerhans Crenwelge and her sister Joyce Crenwelge Raute.
Doris was very active in the Fredericksburg community.

She was a legal secretary and abstractor (1953 to 1954 and 1973-1974) and a Deputy County Clerk (1965-1973).
Doris was first elected as County Clerk in 1975. She was the first elected female county official in Gillespie County and served until her retirement in 1999. Over her 24 years of service to Gillespie County, Doris held many different positions including the following:

• Appointed by the Texas Supreme Court to the Supreme Court Rules Advisory Board (1993-1995),
• Appointed as the County & District Clerks Association Education Committee Chairman (1994-1996)
• Served on the Secretary of State Election Advisory Committee (1992-1994)
• Elected as President of the County & District Clerk's Association of Texas (1990-1991)
• Chairman of the Texas Association of Counties Group Health Board (1988)
• Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Counties (1990-1991)

Doris received the Clerk of the Year Award (1993-1994) from the County & District Clerk's Association of Texas.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg and then at Cherry Springs Christ Lutheran Church (which her ancestors helped to build).
Doris served the Lutheran Church in various ways over the years.

• Sunday school teacher for 40 years.
• Held various offices in the WELCA at both churches including president, secretary, etc.
• Member of the Southwestern Texas Synodical Board
• State Board of Directors of the Women of the Lutheran Church
• 5 times on the Hill Country Conference of the WELCA Board, and secretary and coordinator.
• Cherry Springs Church Council four times holding the position of secretary twice, Vice President and President of the council. [She was also the first woman to be elected to the church council.]
After her retirement as the County Clerk of Gillespie County, Doris served as the secretary for the Cherry Springs Lutheran Church until 2015.
Doris was also active in the community.

• President of the PTA (president, pt and 2nd Vice President, Yearbook Chairman)

• Gillespie County Historical Commission (board member and secretary)
• President and Board Member of the Greenwood Cemetery Association

• Boy Scouts-Pro Patra & Eagle Mother
• 4-H Leader
• Fredericksburg Band Boosters
• Fredericksburg Billie Boosters
• Gillespie County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show
• Volunteer worker for Cancer, Heart, Muscular Dystrophy and Red Cross Blood Drives.

Funeral services for Doris Lange will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, October19th, in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow in Greenwood cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 18th, in Fredericksburg funeral home.
