Obituary

Edward David Brune, known by most as Ed, left this world peacefully on Sunday morning, June 2, 2019 at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his wife and four children, knowing he was very loved. He maintained his sense of humor and sweet nature until the very end.

Ed was born to William and Clara Hawkins Brune in Houston, TX on October 6, 1932. He was the youngest of five children. He became a Christian when he was six years old and held an unwavering faith in God throughout his life. He is now with his Lord Jesus Christ, many beloved family members, and friends.

Ed always held a high regard for education. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School and while serving in the U.S. Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Trudy McClendon. He earned his BA degree in Biology at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX in only three years – while being married and having his firstborn son Larry, playing college football, taking 21 college hours per semester, and being on the Dean's List. Ed and Trudy were married for 67 years and had four children: Larry, Karen, Kay, and Kathy.

The longest life enjoyment for Ed was sports, taking up and excelling at golf at the age of 60. Not a surprise for 'Coach Brune', having mentored many kids over the years in life through athletics. He also loved watching his favorite basketball team, the San Antonio Spurs.

Ed was a very charitable man and a 33rd degree Mason. He and Trudy both gave generously to many wonderful causes. Ed loved his dogs so much, that he and Trudy funded the Hill Country SPCA in Fredericksburg. Their charitable giving crossed into real life as they had cared for so many ailing family members that they contributed to the local Hospice and funded the Brune Professional Building in Fredericksburg.

He loved his wife and his family, all his family, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was his love of kids that led Ed and Trudy both to invest, not donate, but invest in the lives of many children through Big Springs Ranch for Children at Leakey, TX. Coming himself from poor beginnings, working hard his entire life, raising and providing for his own children, it was a true joy for Ed to see kids get a chance at a future through education and a secure home.

Ed is survived by his wife Trudy, his son Larry (Leslie), his daughters Karen, Kay (Ted), and Kathy, his grandchildren Kathryn (Dave), Michelle (Kyle), Ashley, Kevin (Kate), Kelsey Nicole, Madeleine and his great-grandchildren Thomas, Birdie, Ella, nieces, nephews, and their children, many of whom he taught to drive.

Edward David Brune was laid to rest on Saturday, June 8, 2019 in Fredericksburg, TX.

Memorial contributions may be made to Big Springs Ranch for Children in Leakey, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Hill Country SPCA in Fredericksburg, or the charity of one's choice.
