Gary Edward Marburger of Fredericksburg, TX passed away on April 3, 2022 at the age of 77.  He was born in Houston, TX to Tony and Lucile Marburger on May 7, 1944 He is survived by his brother, Alan Marburger of Fischer, his daughter, Sara Espinoza and her husband, Joey, his son, Josh Marburger, and his wife Laura, and his three grandchildren, Risa, Micah and Jace Espinoza.  He is also survived by his precious partner, Kay Wischkaemper.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Gary graduated from Jones High School in Houston and then attended Texas Lutheran College.  He transferred to Elmhurst College in Chicago and earned a Bachelors in Sociology.  He then married Jayne Wathen in 1969 before graduating with a Masters in Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary.  He was ordained in the United Church of Christ.  Soon after, he and Jayne moved to California, where he took a job as a foreman at an avocado grove, where his interest for agriculture was ignited.  This eventually led them to return to Central Texas where he started his own peach orchard.  Those that knew him know this was his life's passion.

Throughout his life, Gary dedicated himself to social activism and service.  He devoted much of his time to service with organizations such as:  the Pedernales Youth Soccer Association, the Hill Country Community Needs Council, Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, the FISD mentoring program, Kairos prison ministry, and Mision de Candelilla.  He loved the mountains and any opportunity to travel, but he found himself happiest among dear friends and his peach trees in the Texas Hill Country.   His family is grateful for the community that he loved.

Gary will be greatly missed by many, but his legacy of love and service will remain.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.
