George H. Kolb of Fredericksburg passed away on Sunday March 18 ^th , at the age of 84. He was born in San Antonio on April 17, 1933 to Ollie Haze and Margaret Waggoner Kolb.

George is survived by his wife Alice Long Kolb; children Kelly Haze Kolb, Carl Joe Kolb, Jennifer Kolb, step-daughter Alisa Allen Nelson; as well as 10 grandchildren.

George began college in 1950. After two years of college, he decided to manage the expenses of his goal of becoming a lawyer with a college leave and entered the Aviation Cadet Program in the US Air Force. He finished the program with academic excellence, achieving first place in his class and became a navigator. To ready his return to college he joined the Classics Book Club, reading and excelling in Plato, Socrates, etc., proudly sharing his new knowledge. He laughed when his friends teased him for not reading light fiction, but continued his studies, quietly. Upon his 4-year discharge, he returned to UT, finishing with a degree in accounting. Four years later, he completed his law degree and placed third highest on that years Texas Bar Exam.

George began his law practice with Baker-Botts in Houston, then led an 8 man firm, Wynne Jaffe and Tinsley, to leading the litigation section of Gardere Wynne in the 90s, then opened the Dallas office of Wilson Elser et al. He retired after years of practice carrying a leading trial lawyer reputation.

With a passionate love for historic Texas homes, George began buying and restoring old (often condemned) homes in the late 1980s. His enthusiasm for saving old properties pushed his restoration of the Farr House, The Rose Mansion and Inn at Salado in Salado, TX and multiple German rock homes in Fredericksburg, TX.

George's vision, creativity and passion for perfection were reflected in every aspect of his life. Though age 84 he ran 1 1/2 miles 5 times a week, finishing his run with curls and 40 pushups. He kept his property immaculate, enjoying the many tasks of weeding, mowing, etc., and most of all, his quick wit and enjoyment of excelling carried him through the bumpy and pleasurable roads of life, be it personal or professional.

The family thanks the excellent team of nurses and doctors at Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Dr. Yvonne Haug and all hospice caregivers and the special staff and caregivers at Celeste Memory Care.

Remembrances of George may be given to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Arms of Hope in Medina, Texas or the charity of your choice.

The family will greet friends from 1-2p.m. Monday March 26 in the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.

A Memorial service will take place at 2:00p.m., Monday, March 26 ^th , in the Sanctuary of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.
