Homer Harold Pugh, Jr., Lt. Col. Army Retired, of Harper passed away on July 29, 2021 at the age of 76 with his wife at his side holding his hand.

Homer was born in San Antonio TX on April 16, 1945 to Homer H. Pugh and Wilma Mildred Dayton Pugh. He was married January 22, 1965, to his high school sweetheart, Tomi Larene Urmson.

Homer graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor in Business Management. He served 20.5 years in the US Army. A veteran of the Viet Nam War, he flew helicopters, earning 4 Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and 36 Air Medals including one for valor. After Viet Nam he also became fixed wing rated.

After his military career he flew as a commercial pilot for American Eagle Airlines for 18 years retiring in 2005.  During his tenure he became rated in multiple aircraft. He ended his flying careers with a total of 12,906 accumulated hours of flight time.

Retiring in Harper he became a member of the Harper Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter before completing EMT school to become an EMS responder. At age 65 he became a Licensed Paramedic to better serve the Harper area.  He also worked part time for Fredericksburg EMS.  Active in the community, he also helped establish the Harper Library and served as treasurer of the Harper Community Chamber of Commerce.

Homer and Tomi loved traveling and cruised to many ports around the world.

He is survived by his wife Tomi Pugh of Harper, son Jeffrey D. Pugh and wife Connie of Arlington TX., son Bryan S. Pugh and wife Julie of Garland TX; sister Carolyn Arndts of Ten Mile TN, sister Susan Hough and husband David of San Antonio TX; 4 grandchildren: Jason, Nathanial, Ryan, and Hayley, and 4 great grandchildren: McKenna, Layton, Davis, and Michaela.

He was preceded in death by his parents Homer H. and Wilma M. Pugh.

Visitation on Wednesday August 4th , from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. in the Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at Wild Ride Ministries, Harper, on Thursday, August 5 ^th , 10:00 AM, with Pastor Craig Foster presiding.  Graveside services with military honors by the Gillespie County Honor Guard followed at the Harper Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Harper VFD, Harper Community Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund through the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, Harper Library, or a charity of your choice.
