Jeffrey Dale
Holt
Jun 20, 1962 — Aug 4, 2022
Jeffrey Dale Holt passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, after a short illness. Jeff was born on June 20, 1962, in Brownwood, Texas, to Jerry and Bennie Holt. After leaving the hospital he went home with his parents to their home in Santa Anna, Texas. A year later he was joined by a brother, Rodney.
The family later moved to Coleman and then later to Brady. In 1966 the Holt family found their forever home in Fredericksburg. Jeff began his education at Ms. Lochte's Kindergarten. And in 1980 he graduated from Fredericksburg High School. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Schreiner College. While attending Schreiner he spent one year as a foreign exchange student at Nagasaki Wesleyan Junior College in Japan. He loved his year in Japan and made many friends there and remained in touch with some of them. He received a Master's Degree from University of Texas. Upon graduation he worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in Austin. Desiring to return to Fredericksburg, he came home and then found a job with Gastehaus Schmidt. He loved working there and made some lasting friends through the years. He worked there over 20 years when he had to retire in 2021 for health reasons.
He was a quiet introvert but when he got to know you he was known for his sense of humor which was sometimes sarcastic and his dry wit. He was an avid reader from a very young age. He loved all kinds of books: from humor, history, mystery, science fiction, and the classics. He was a "Trekkie" from way back. He was into home brewing and craft beers, enjoying visits to many Home Brewing Conventions around the country and tours of many breweries and distilleries. He also enjoyed painting in his spare time. He enjoyed dove hunting with his cousins even though not too many dove were in danger.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Jerry Holt. He is survived by his mother, Bennie Holt, of Fredericksburg; brother Rodney Holt and spouse Jeanne of Lampasas; nephew Sean Holt and spouse Joanne of Hondo (and Cael, Aidan, Alaric, and Elam); niece Katie and spouse Evan Kennerdell of San Antonio; nephew Brandon Skelton and spouse Carolyne (and Oakley) of Castle Rock, Colorado; and nephew Shawn Skelton of Castle Rock, Colorado. He is also survived by two aunts and one uncle as well as numerous much loved cousins and friends.
A private service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
