Obituary

Jerry Carlton McLeod was born on May 22nd, 1941, in Merkel, TX, and passed

peacefully on Thursday May 16th, in Fredericksburg, TX.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the

Merkel Church of Christ, 700 Ash Street, in Merkel, TX.

Jerry was predeceased by his most beloved wife of 60 years, Billie Marie

McLeod. They were an awesome example of love and caring to all who knew

them. Jerry's devotion to his family was always evident! He dearly loved his 3

children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and they all adored him.

All generations especially enjoyed the fun loving, gentle giant, built-in jungle

gym of a man he was!

Everyone who knew Jerry knew of his passion for coaching and anything sports

related. Through his many years of coaching and teaching, Jerry was able to

positively impact many students and athletes. He was most proud of his

coaching career at Merkel High School, where he was able to return to his

hometown and do what he loved with the people he loved. Jerry, himself, was

a standout athlete at Merkel High School, ACU and McMurry. In 2015 he was

given the Helen Benson Spirit of the Badger Award for his dedication and loyalty

as a life-long Merkel Badger. Jerry was also known for the twenty years he

worked at Texas Gulf Engineering. He managed projects all along the Gulf

Coast and made life-long friendships all along the ship channels.

Jerry also loved to sail with Billie Marie. They even lived aboard their boat for

eight years and accomplished the great feat of crossing the ocean! They

enjoyed scuba diving and all that island life had to offer.

Jerry was an active member of the Fredericksburg Cowboy Church and was

lovingly known as their Honorary Seargent at Arms!

Jerry is survived by daughter Debbi Sue McCurdy and husband Mike, daughter

Patti Marie Cowsert and husband Tim; grandchildren Courtney Marie Cowsert,

Lindsey Ann Vollmer and husband JC, Collin McLeod Cowsert, Tasha Renee

McCurdy, Ashley Rachelle Abuzlam; great grandchildren Vallie, Ridge, Tana,
