John Sobey, Jr., a beloved son, father, and grandfather, passed away on the afternoon of January 3, 2025 at the age of 61 in his home after a short cancer illness.

John William Sobey, Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 31, 1963 to John and Alma (Hartmann) Sobey. He graduated from Madison High School in 1980 in San Antonio, TX. He married Margaret Daniese Brown in 1985 in Bexar County, Texas and had one son, John William Sobey, III in 1986. They divorced in 1993. John and Celia (Sally) Resendez married in 1994. John and Sally were married for several years and divorced in 2007.

John lived and worked in San Antonio for most of his adult life. He had a career at Southwest Research Institute for many years before deciding to return to school. He attended Western Governers University online and graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting.

John moved in with his mother in Fredericksburg, TX in 2020 to help when his father, John, Sr, passed away. He used his many skills to help maintain the home for his mom. He was generous with his time and his handiness, including helping other family in the area. He also worked at the Hampton Inn in town, where he was befriended by much of the staff.

. He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully. John was preceded in death by his father John W. Sobey, Sr. and former wife, Daniese Sobey. He is survived by his mother, Alma Hartmann Sobey of Fredericksburg, sisters Cindy (Bob) Harris of Carrollton, TX and Valarie (Ed) Smith of Fredericksburg, TX, brother Thomas (Terri) Sobey of San Antonio, TX, stepson Tommy (Jodi) Parker of Burleson, TX, son John "Trey" (Christina) Sobey of San Antonio and grandchildren Crystal and Tommy Sobey, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering was held in Alma's home on January 4, which was well attended by family, friends and co-workers.

John left a legacy of love and cherished memories. He will continue to live on in those of the lives he touched, the love he gave, and the laughter he brought. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
