Jordan Ruth
Hensley
Nov 11, 1991 — May 4, 2018
Richmond
Jordan Ruth Hensley, 26, of Richmond, VA, left this life on May 4, 2018. Born on November 11, 1991, she grew up in Chesterfield and was a graduate of Manchester High School and James Madison University. Her kind heart and adventurous spirit endeared her to all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Second Branch Baptist Church and served on several missions to help those in need at home and abroad. After college she worked in Napa Valley as a wine specialist then travelled the world solo, visiting Australia, New Zealand, and numerous countries in Asia, including Singapore, Cambodia and Indonesia to name a few. Some of her most memorable experiences were serving as an au pair and English tutor in Italy, caring for elephants in Laos, SCUBA diving in Thailand, motorbiking in Vietnam, observing Day of Silence in Bali, and organic farming in New Zealand. She most recently lived in Austin, Texas where she was able to follow her passion in the wine industry working at House Wine and as Manager of The Tasting Room at Alexander Vineyards.
One of Jordan's most unique qualities was her devotion to her family and friends as well as her selfless acts of kindness for anyone she came in contact with. Above all, Jordan was a devoted daughter, sister and friend who brought joy to all who knew her. She had a deep appreciation for other cultures and how they lived their lives despite what little they had. On her blog learnlaughandroll.blogspot.com, she wrote not just about the beautiful landscapes, but more about the human experience and the concern for the people she met, especially those in poverty-stricken countries.
She is survived by her mother Areina Hensley, her father Jeff Hensley, brother Chad Wootson Hensley, grandmother Flossie Bruce, grandparents Edith and Clark Hensley, aunt Theresa Burton (Keith), aunt Angela Hensley, uncle Kevin Hensley and many cousins, other family members, friends and her beloved dogs Phoebe and Dursley.
