Joseph Franklin Whitehead Jr.'s Obituary
Joe F. Whitehead of Brady TX passed away on 23 September 2017. He was born 1 February 1950 son of Joe and Harriett Whitehead. He has two sons Jack and Austin Whitehead and one daughter-in-law Amber Whitehead.
Joe was a 1968 Fredericksburg High School Graduate. He joined the Air Force in January 1969 and served until April of 1974. Joe went back to the Air Force as a Civil Service Employee in 1974 and retired on December 31, 2009. While working for the Air Force he attended college and graduated in 1983 with a BA in Education from Southwest Texas.
Outside of life in the Air Force Joe was an avid Horseman. He was a lifelong member of the San Antonio Stock Show. He enjoyed life on the old horse trails of the hill country. He was also a member of the Alamo Country Trail Ride Association. An old time cowboy Joe enjoyed working stock with his late uncle Dub Whitehead.
Joes love of the outdoors transcended his love of horses. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught his sons to respect the beauty and wonders of nature from an early age.
Joes biggest accomplishments were helping his two sons graduate from college and seeing his daughter-in-law graduate college. He was a proud lifetime member of the disabled American Veterans Association. He was the Post Commander of the American Legion in Brady, TX. Joe was also a proud member of the 3700CES (The Black Knights) at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
In the spirit of the Legendary Roy Rogers, Joe wishes "Happy Trails" to his mother, two sisters and younger brother as well as all of his family and friends until they meet again. His cremated remains will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday October 13, 2017 at 11:15a.m.
Joe is survived by his sons Jack Whitehead of San Marcos TX and Austin Whitehead and wife Amber of Longview, sisters Pearl McFarland and husband Michael of Greenville TX, Virginia Brautegam and husband Jerald of granite Shoals, brother Yogi Whitehead and wife Carolyn of Fredericksburg.
