Obituary

Kathleen "Kate" Grove (nee Horn) of Fredericksburg, TX passed away 26 February 2024. Born July 30, 1952 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Jerome F. and Lottie Horn.

As a young woman, Kathleen traveled extensively living in eight states and one foreign country and visiting multiple other foreign locations and states. She and her husband John (deceased 2006) moved to the Hill Country in the early 1990's.  They lived first in Kerrville, then Harper (20+ years), with Kathleen finally retiring to Fredericksburg in 2020. Kathleen always felt her extensive travels in her youth gave her an education that couldn't be found in traditional schooling. She often said "I never really appreciated America until I traveled overseas. It changes your perspective and attitude completely and makes you intensely thankful for your many blessings."

Kathleen was an alumna of Schreiner University for Nursing (LVN) and worked as a school nurse for Harper ISD for many years as well as holding other nursing positions in the Hill Country area. She later returned to school attending Texas Tech University to obtain her Bachelor's degree and finally her teaching certification for Special Education/English and taught for a number of years before retiring. Kathleen loved gardening, books, traveling, and science. She was also a strong advocate for global peace.

She is survived by her three children. Shayna Grove Dryanski (Oklahoma), Jonathan Grove (Fredericksburg, TX), and Jared and Michelle Grove (Abilene, TX) and one grandson, Jaden. She is also survived by her elder brother, Daniel Horn of Pittsburgh.

Kathleen was a quiet Christian who dedicated her life to raising her children and helping friends and family when in need. She eschewed joining organizations and clubs and preferred dealing one on one with others in a close, personal manner. She strongly believed in living her faith each day with a meek attitude and will be missed for her loving support and generous manner.

Friends and family may attend a memorial ceremony at 1PM, 9 March 2024, at Fredericksburg Funeral Home, located at 2278 S US Hwy 87, Fredericksburg, TX 78624 followed by a short reception.
