Obituary

Kermit Charles Burrer was born m Fredericksburg on June 26, 1933, to Edgar Louis and Emily Ruby Evers Burrer. Kermit was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg on August 27, 1933, by Pastor F. Bracher. He later affirmed his baptism in the rite of confirmation at Zion on March 30, 1947 with Pastor Bracher presiding. He received as his confirmation verse Ephesians 6:10.

Kermit served his country in the U.S. Air Force then went to the University of Texas where he graduated in 1959. He married Elsie Meier on February 14, 1975. Kermit worked in the insurance business, first with the State then as an Agent.

Kermit was a builder of community. When the family moved to western Travis County, he joined the Optimist Club and became president, guiding the group for several years. Oak Hill had no fire department, so Kermit was one of 3 men who chartered the Oak Hill Volunteer Fire Department in April 1968. When the family returned to Fredericksburg, Kermit was a charter member of the Fredericksburg Chapter of Kiwanis International, an officer in the Gillespie County Historical Society, and served with several local organizations and clubs. He was an active member at Zion (where he served as president), at Holy Cross in Austin, and at Bethany in Fredericksburg.

Kermit died on December 20, 2019 at the age of 86. He is preceded in death by his wife Elsie Meier Burrer, his parents Edgar and Emily Burrer. He is survived by his children Brian Burrer and wife Donna, Becky Burrer, Brad Burrer and wife Edith, Suzanne Scott and husband Shawn, Missy Burrer, Wendy McIntyre and husband Damon; step-children Jaye Treibs and husband Kenneth, Kathy Farnhof, Cristo! Feller and husband Jack, Tim Farnhof; sister Ruby Emily Koennecke, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, or the charity of one's choice.
