Obituary

Reverend Larry Foster went home to be with his Lord on December 19, 2020 at 87 years of age. Larry and his wife Betty, have both been residents of Knopp Nursing Home for the last year where Betty still resides. Larry died of complications from COVID-19.

Larry and Betty Foster moved to Fredericksburg from California in 1985 after open heart surgery left him needing a place to live with smog free air. Having grown up in Texas, the move was a homecoming. Larry was pastoring a church in California, and felt called to start a church in Fredericksburg. He did it the old-fashioned way, starting from scratch, with door knocking and a lot of hard work. Larry also started Hill Country Hobby Shop in downtown Fredericksburg, which helped support the Fosters and the new church work for the first six years. The church grew and they eventually purchased property on Pyka Rd, and built a new church building. Larry retired three years ago after serving as pastor for 32 years. Betty had also served as church pianist through those years. The Fredericksburg Baptist church is now pastored by Reverend Ronnie Dyer.

Larry said he has accomplished all he wanted in life: pastored two churches, served as music director for a church of 5,000 in California, served as finance director of a bible college, where he also taught. Larry had many interest and enjoyed many things including cars and airplanes of all kinds. Having owned and flown his own small planes many years ago, led to a love of model planes and RC flying. In his years at the hobby shop, Larry taught many local modelers to fly the planes they built. Larry will be remembered by many as a friendly man with a big smile and a ready laugh. He will be remembered and missed as husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and pastor to so many. Larry is survived by Betty, his wife of 69 years, daughters Della Gorden and husband Roger , and Pam Arnell, both of Fredericksburg, and son Larry Foster and wife Jill, of Scottsdale, Arizona. Also surviving is sister, Connie Foster of San Francisco, California. Missing him also are 12 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 2 great, great, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was loved by so many and will be missed with precious memories by all.
