Obituary

Lennart Erlingson Gleditsch passed away Friday, February 5 th at his Fredericksburg home at the age of ninety of congestive heart failure.  Lennart was born in Sweden in 1930 and grew up in the town of Sundsvall near a river where his father was manager of a paper mill.  Lennart could tell some fabulous stories of his mischievous antics as a little boy living near the mill.  Lennart completed his service in the Swedish Army and later, following his studies at the University of Upsala found his life's work as a foreign exchange trader at Handelsbanken, a prominent Swedish bank, achieving the position of Vice President.  After retirement from the bank, Lennart was encouraged by a friend to go to the United States to find his love of many years ago.  He did so and after 4 days together they decided to marry.  Although their marriage was later in life, they had 28 wonderful years together.  While living in Comfort on a small ranch, Lennart got great pleasure in phoning his Swedish friends at the bank to tell them he was a "goat farmer."

Lennart is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Marjorie Blomgren Gleditsch, his sister-in-law Brenda Lehmann and his niece and her husband of Austin, Audrey Lehmann Richard and David and two grandnephews, Theodore and Walter Richard.  Caregivers, Tom Gaulager, Dorothy Klaerner Moellering, Barbara Segner, Olivia Garza, Maria Ramos, Mike Gustin and Alan Barrera gave him much comfort as he neared the end of his life.

Since Lennart loved birds, memorials may be given in his memory to National Audubon Society or Native Plant Society of Texas, Fredericksburg Chapter.
