Obituary

Beloved, wife, mother, Oma and the last of her generation in her family, Louise Augusta Lehne Ottmers passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father on February 12, 2020 at the age of 94 in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Born on the 4th of July, 1925, and raised on the family farm in Palo Alto, she graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1943. In 1946, she graduated from Santa Rosa School of Nursing as an RN and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Incarnate Word College in January, 1949. Early in her nursing career, she served at Santa Rosa Hospital and the Tubercular Hospital, both in San Antonio. Later in her career, she served as head of the LVN Program at Goodall-Witcher Clinic in Clifton, Tx, in nursing programs in Wharton, Tx and the State Hospital in Kerrville, Tx.

On February 6, 1949, she married Marvin O. Ottmers, also of Fredericksburg. Their first child, Kathleen, was born while he was finishing his degree at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA. Three more children, Daniel, Elaine and Stephen were born in the next few years while the family lived in Cat Spring, Tx. With Louise by his side, Marvin served for the next 58 years as an ordained Lutheran pastor at the triple parish of Cat Spring, Peters and Wallis, the dual parish of Caldwell and Deanville, the single parishes Cranfills Gap, Wharton, and Cave Creek and lastly as visitation pastor at Holy Ghost Lutheran in Fredericksburg until his death in 2012.

Louise's great joys in life were her family, quilting, flowers, and her community of friends. She always maintained a lush garden ensuring fresh produce for her family and community. She was also an accomplished cook and inveterate canner. Louise was a fifth generation descendent of the original settlers of Fredericksburg and possessed a seemingly boundless knowledge of flowers, fauna, family, and Fredericksburg history.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; daughter, Kathleen; parents, Emil and Cora Itz Lehne; sisters and their spouses, Flora Crenwelge (Gilbert) and Helena Rode (Marcus); brothers and sisters in law, Ewald (Pete) Ottmers (Metza) and Esther Schilling (Marvin); nephew, Ronnie Schilling and niece, Esterleen Payne.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Ottmers (Debra), Elaine Hill (Paul), Stephen Ottmers (Janis); grandchildren, Joshua Hill (Danielle), Amber Hill Anderson (Shea), Gretchen Dyson (Cory), Robin Brauer and great grandchildren, James and Rowan Hill, Deklin and Alexandra Dyson, Phoenix Ryan, and numerous extended family members and friends.

Nieces: Pamela Schilling, Florence Rogers (Tom), Arlene Crenwelge, Eunice Pape (Dale), Virginia Feuge (Lance), Carol Durst (David), Daisey Schneider (Keith), Pansy Benedict (Berry).

Nephews: Ralph Rode (Karen), Gerald Crenwelge, Dennis Crenwelge (Carolyn), Wilfred Crenwelge (Michele), Rodney Crenwelge (Kathryn), Keith Crenwelge, Roger Ottmers (Josie Neffendorf), Leland Ottmers (Eileen), Ricky Ottmers (Carol).
