Margaret Mary
Klaehn
Dec 27, 1944 — Jun 1, 2026
Gretel was born in San Antonio, Texas, and spent her youth there. Although she loved all animals, she developed a passion for horses at an early age that remained with her throughout her life. Horses were more than a hobby to Gretel-they were her joy, her peace, and her lifelong companions. Her happiest times involved anything to do with horses, whether riding, grooming, or simply spending time in the barn.
Gretel moved from Boerne to Harper in 2007, where she quickly became involved with the community she grew to love. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and helped transport people to medical appointments and the grocery store.
Gretel was intelligent and quick to laugh, but more than anything, she was kind and generous. Gretel measured life not by what she had, but by what she could give. If you needed anything and if Gretel was able to provide it, it was yours. She never met a stranger and was a dear friend to many. She had a gift for making people feel welcome. Whether sharing a laugh, lending a helping hand, or simply listening, she had a way of brightening the day of everyone she met.
Gretel leaves behind her husband, Gary Klaehn her brother, John (Val); "Honorary daughter" Ladonna and Wayne Jones multiple nieces and nephews; and a host of friends too numerous to count.
Those who knew Gretel will remember her warm smile, her infectious laugh, and the kindness she showed so freely to others. The love she shared will continue to live on in the memories of family and friends who were blessed to know her. She will forever be missed, and her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many.
Those wanting to make a memorial for Gretel are asked to send it to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the charity of one's choice.
