Mary "Beth" Hughes passed away in the early morning hours of March 22nd. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday.

Beth was born in Dallas, TX to Mary and Arthur Ebert. She attended Arlington State College, getting a Medical Technician degree and later a BA in Fine Art. In 1960, she married Carl David Hughes; and together raised two children, Sharon and Steven.

The family lived in Arlington, TX for many years. In 2001, Beth and David moved to Fredericksburg. There, she became active in the Fredericksburg Art Guild and the Hill County Art Foundation.

Beth took in the world around her with an artist's eye. She enjoyed watercolor and oil painting, pencil sketching, and ink printing. Her favorite subject was nature, especially the dramatic landscapes of Colorado. Beth's favorite mountains hang on walls in the homes of many friends and family.

Over the past few decades, Beth and her family ran Kairos the Celebration Barn, an event center nestled in the hills above the Pedernales river. Their shared vision for celebration of beautiful life moments made Kairos a mainstay of the Hill Country events scene.

Beth loved to celebrate. Each summer, she and David invited family and friends to join them at their cabin in Colorado for hiking, fishing, art shows, and just being together. Her family fondly remembers countless holidays, birthdays, and simple dinners sweetened by her laughter.

Beth is survived by her husband David, her children Sharon and Steven, her sister Rebecca Brewer, and five grandchildren. Her love as a wife and mother, and her inspiration as an artist will be missed.

Beth's family wishes that instead of flowers or other expressions of sympathy; those willing would donate to the Hill Country Arts Foundation or the Good Samaritan Center. The family also wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers who have brightened and eased Beth's life these past few years

Per her wishes she will cremated with a memorial service at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church on Wednesday March 25, 2026 at 11:00a.m.
