Paul
Whetstone
Nov 29, 1954 — Oct 12, 2016
Paul Whetstone passed away Wednesday, October 12, at the age of 61. Paul was born to Raymond L. and Helen Anderson Whetstone on November 29, 1954.
Paul was a great brother to four sisters. He was always there to help and make us laugh. When anything mechanical, electrical, or plumbing was broken he could, most of the time, diagnose the problem over the phone and tell us how to fix the problem. If he could not help over the phone he would drive over to solve the problem. When he called or visited he could keep his sisters laughing. It brought him such joy to make his sisters laugh, and we always enjoyed our visit with such a great bother.
He loved to dance. Every weekend he could be found somewhere on a Texas dance floor twirling Sarah St. Clair around to the country music. Though, his absolute favorite genre of music was the blues. He was well recognized in the Hill Country dance halls as a very talented dancer.
Paul's father was a minister in Boyton Beach, FL with a drug and alcohol rehab center. Paul credits the residents there with preventing him from experimenting with drugs with their stories of the detrimental effects these things had in their lives. As a result, Paul loved helping men overcome their addictions and he founded Lighthouse Ministries with his lifelong friend Bud Read.
Paul is survived by his children: Jonathan Whetstone & wife Katherine of Whittier, CA; Bryan Whetstone & wife Jennifer of Jacksonville, FL; Crystal Whetstone of San Antonio; Deanna Elliott & husband Rick of San Antonio; 8 grandchildren; siblings: Sarah Scott & husband Dan of San Antonio; Elizabeth Sweet & husband Dana of San Antonio; Ruth Fincher & husband David of Kissimmi, FL; Naomi Toll of Kerrville; the mother of his children, Anna Joy Hyman of Port Aransas & best friend, Sarah St.Clair of Fredericksburg.
A memorial service for Paul Whetstone will be held 4 p.m., Sunday, October 23 rd , in Oak Hills Church of Fredericksburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Calvary House for Men, 540 S.W. 2 nd Pl., Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
