Robert “Bob” Alan Leggett, age 72, passed away on October 27th, 2026, in Austin, Texas.
Born on November 25, 1953, in Mena, Arkansas, Bob Leggett lived a life defined by adventure, hard work, laughter, and love. His greatest blessing was meeting the love of his life, Suzan, and building a home together on their ranch in Llano County. From the day they were married, the ranch, a treasured piece of land passed down through his mother's family, became the center of their world. Bob often said he was one of the luckiest men alive to find a woman who not only embraced ranch life but loved it as deeply as he did. Together, they raised goats, cattle, and a variety of other animals in the backdrop of the stunning Texas Hill Country.
While the ranch was always home, Bob also left an enduring mark on the beer industry. After graduating from St. Edward's University with a degree in business, he entered the beer business in 1977 and became a respected pioneer in the world of specialty beer. Through his companies, Shiner of Austin and later Artisanal Imports, Bob introduced generations of Americans to some of the finest beers from Texas, Europe, and South America. His passion, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit helped shape the way craft and imported beers were enjoyed across the United States, earning him the respect and friendship of brewers, distributors, and colleagues throughout the industry.
The proud father of five children, Bob was a devoted family man who often joked, though only half-jokingly, that his goal was to have fifteen grandchildren. In 2025, that long-standing wish became a reality. Nothing brought him greater pride than watching his family grow and seeing the values he cherished carried forward through his children and grandchildren. He celebrated each new addition as one of life's greatest blessings.
Known for his trademark beard, gift for storytelling, and ability to make friends wherever he went, Bob found joy in life’s simple pleasures—from movie outings and refreshing swims on hot Texas days to cheering on University of Texas basketball. He will be remembered for his warmth, optimism, generosity, and belief that life is meant to be shared. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the ranch he treasured, the industry he helped shape, and the countless lives he touched through friendship, mentorship, and love.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Suzan, and his children - daughter Katie Hood, son-in-law Jonathan and their children Caleb, David and Ian; daughter Shelli Leggett and her children Adon, Ace and Ava; daughter Becky Boyle, son-in-law Daniel and their children Kezley, Briah and Vayla; son Ethan Leggett, daughter-in-law Tori and their children Cora and Sloane; and daughter Alana Hakes, son-in-law Justin and their children Ava, Ember, Remington and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Alan L. Leggett and Mary Bob Leggett
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on November 7th, at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Cypress Mill.
