Ronald E. Smith's Obituary
Ron (Ronnie) Smith, born Jan. 6, 1947 in Borger, TX, was a baby boomer born to WWII Marine R.E.Smith and his new bride Marjorie (Stager). He had wonderful memories of his childhood there until the age of four when the family moved to LaMarque, Texas. He always yearned for west Texas, and finally made it back as far as Fredericksburg in 2013. Both the Smith and Stager families were large & loving. Ron had their patient, loving ways and intelligent wit.
Ron attended the University of Texas in Austin where he met his wife, Janice (McInnis) one summer. He obtained a BBA in Accounting, in spite of turning his attention to her pursuit. They married in 1969 and have enjoyed 48 years together. Ron worked as a CPA (specializing in audit) in public practice for 45 years, retiring only when ALS took his strength. Ron served his family, profession & Lord both faithfully and humbly. Ron was a Rotarian in Fredericksburg, a Deacon at Hill Country Church, a Colson Centurian, an Elder at Katy Bible Church and a Bible Study Fellowship leader for over 25 years.
Ron's children speak volumes for his love and discernment as a father. They are truly the crown of his old age. Ron left this earth for his home in heaven on May 1, 2017. He is survived by his wife Janice, his three children & families; Alicia Smith & husband Hank Flores of Houston; Brad Smith, wife Paige & daughters Vivian & Clara of Seattle, WA; Cynthia (Smith) Plunkett, husband Kyle & children Rhett & Hazel of Carbondale, IL; one brother Dennis Smith of Dripping Springs, TX, three nephews, three nieces, two aunts & an uncle, and many "marvelous" cousins.
Ron was interred at Greenwood Cemetery. His Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers are Wayne Allison, John Britt, Larry Buckhorn, Dave Campbell, Jim Crowhurst, Bill Dempsey, Mark Duncan, Hank Flores, Vince Kirshner, Bill Lucy, Dave McGinnis, Dalton/Blue McInnis, Kyle Plunkett, Dennis/Lyn Smith and Larry Thurman.
Ron will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Memorial gifts in his name are appreciated and may be directed to a charitable mission close to your heart.
