Roy Benno Itz was born on July 4, 1927, to Benno and Elsie Geistweidt Itz and passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 2 days.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Eckert and second wife, Irene Waltisperger and his brother in laws and sister in laws, Ervin and Yvonne Eckert and Homer and Myrtle Geistweidt.  He is survived by his loving and encouraging eight nieces and nephews and their families, Gene Geistweidt, Joe D. Geistweidt, Judy Lehmberg, Gwen Stockbridge, Ernie Eckert, Larry Eckert, Jimmie Jill Pilcher and Ellen Eckert, who stood by, cared for and supported him these last eight years of his life.  He is also survived by his lifelong friend and confidante, Jim Faught.

Roy was born at home in the Onion Creek Community, just northwest of Doss, Tx where he resided with his parents.  He attended and graduated from the 8 ^th grade of Onion Creek School which was only a few miles from his home place.  Upon graduation he continued to farm and ranch with his parents and assisted with their annual pecan crop.

On June 5, 1952, a month before his 25 ^th birthday he married Violet Eckert, daughter of Walter and Meta Eckert at Hilda United Methodist Church.  Roy and Violet began a 37-year marriage that was filled with fun, laughter, hard work, tears, traveling, joys, sorrows and many, many blessings.  Shortly after the death of his wife Violet, he married Irene Waltisperger.

Since Roy and Violet did not have any children of their own, they doted on their nieces and nephews and enjoyed hosting them for sleep overs, weekend trips, fishing or hunting outings, star gazing nights, cattle roundups, arrowhead hunting events and homemade ice cream parties.

Roy loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and improving his property.  He became so involved with soil and water preservation that he enrolled officially with Gillespie County Soil and Water Conversation District and served them for numerous years.  He also was appointed to the Gillespie County Water Control and Improvement District Board for 20 years and served as a director for the Hill Country Telephone Coop for several decades.

Mr. Itz was a Doss Volunteer Fire Department member and chaired the tea and lemonade committee at the annual Labor Day Fish Fry until he could no longer participate due to health reasons.  Additionally, he was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and served in multiple capacities throughout his life.  He was a devoted Christian who believed in daily devotionals, worship and praise times.  He graciously dealt with adversity and tragedy during his lifetime including the loss of two homes to fire.  Always praising God for keeping him and his family safe.

Raising cattle, sheep, goats and pigs was all part of Roy's life and livelihood.  Later in life, he only maintained cattle on his ranches and loved feeding and caring for them.   Visiting his five ranches all within the Doss Community was a daily task he looked forward to until he could no longer continue. The past eight years he resided in Fredericksburg under the loving and professional care of the Knopp Healthcare family. The good Lord blessed him with a long and prosperous life.

Funeral services were held February 10th, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Doss TX., with Rev. Alan Williams officiating.
