Shirley Carol
Brozik
Dec 26, 1936 — May 5, 2025
Shirley Carol (Albrecht) Brozik passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Born December 26, 1936 on the Albrecht farm south of Fairfax, she happily spent her childhood caring for the animals on her family farm. Shirley graduated from Fairfax High School in 1954. In 1958, she married Tom Brozik and they made their home in Sleepy Eye, MN for those first few years of marriage. Shirley was a woman ahead of her time. With three preschool children, she ran her own beauty shop called Shirl's Cut 'n Curl.
But after a few years, the farm life called to her again, and they moved the family to a farm a couple miles southwest of Fairfax, although she did keep a beauty shop open on the farm for many years. Shirley was known as a tinkerer, and could come up with a solution for almost any problem. She was a loving mom, often having freshly baked cookies ready when the kids got off the school bus, giving her time to sit down with them and talk about their day.
As retirement approached, Shirley and Tom split their time between summers on the farm and winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas In 2004, they retired fully from farming. Time was spent traveling, including several trips to Alaska with a camper, a European trip, and a cruise, as well as meandering trips between Minnesota and Texas each year. If there was a musical instrument of any kind sitting around, she would figure out how to play a tune on it. Her ability to play piano by ear always delighted her family. Shirley was a dancer - square dancing, polka/waltz dancing, clogging and swing dancing. People in her Texas community marveled at the fact that she would dance four or more nights a week and would not sit out a single song.
She is survived by children Linda (Kurt) O'Bryan, Buzz (Anne) Brozik, Sandy (David) Simmons, Mary Brozik, and Vickie (Scott) Dedeker; her siblings Fern (DeLloyd) Hillmann and Stern (Erdine) Albrecht; her dancing partner for the last 15 years, Marvin Huiras; her grandchildren, Kaitie O'Bryan, Brooke O'Bryan Schelin, Haley Brozik, Zack Brozik, and Patrick Simmons, and a great granddaughter, Lia Schelin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Brozik, and her parents, Raleigh and Mary Albrecht.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that, in her honor, pay it forward, show kindness to a stranger, plant a garden or tree, to make the world a better place as Shirley did throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life and burial at Fairfax Cemetery will be held at a later date to be announced.
