Sue Black's Obituary
Her brother, Donavon Maurice, "Buddy" was born 2 years later. They spent a short time at Ft. Clark, Texas during war time. Their family moved back to Harper where Sue and Buddy attended school. Their lives were spent playing with cousins, school, and church activities. Sue graduated from Harper High School in 1950. A great tragedy occurred when Buddy's life was taken in a hunting accident during Christmas vacation. He was 13 and Sue was 15 at the time.
On June 12, 1953 Sue married Albert Black. They were introduced by Sue's dad, Roy Roberts. Albert was just beginning his career as an educator. They lived in a duplex across the street from her parents.
Great joy and blessings came along with the births of Charles Tobin Black on August 29, 1954 and Hope Suzanne Black on August 13, 1957. They moved to Katy, Texas and it became their home for 28 years. Their lives in Katy were busy with their jobs, school, activities and a church home they cherished. They were warmly welcomed into their church family at Katy Apostolic Faith Church. Lifelong friendships were formed and continue today. Their children graduated from Katy High School. Sue loved the Friday night football games, twirling activities and the busy life she lived. Sue worked for the Katy ISO business tax office for 20 plus years. She loved her job and her office associates loved her.
Retirement time came along. Sue was excited with their dream home among the tress on Gammenthaler Lane in Harper. They moved into a wonderful chapter of their lives. Sue was among her parents, loving aunts and uncles, and cousins once again. She became caretaker for her uncles and eventually her mother. She volunteered at the Pioneer Museum as a hostess, as well as fundraising committee. She substituted at the Harper school, sewed, played Bunko and thrived in her Harper environment. She finally had time to garden and created a beautiful yard, and happily accepted requests to address thousands of invitations with her calligraphy.
Sue had wonderful vacation memories. She traveled to New England with her mother and sister. They made numerous trips to Branson and the South. They traveled to Hawaii and Mexico with her mother, sister, daughter, niece and granddaughter. She loved learning about the Amish and traveled to an Amish settlement. She collected Amish art.
Sadly, Albert died of cancer in December of 1989. She continued her activities and enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
She loved the holidays and especially the family tradition of watching "Christmas Vacation" every year.
Her principal pastime was serving God and her church family. She shared her talents for decorating and organizing for each occasion where she was needed. Her well-worn Bible a testament of her quiet faith.
Pastor Mike Weaver at Ministries will lead the service to memorialize Sue's life. Favorite hymns will be sung by life-long friends from Katy, the Stanberry family.
Visitation will be at the Fredericksburg Funeral Home, Sunday November 20, 2016 from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 Monday November 21 in the Wild Ride Church in Harper.
The service will be at Wild Ride Church in Harper, Monday November 21, 2016 at 10:30a.m. Interment will follow at Harper City Cemetery
Sue is survived by her daughter, Hope Suzanne Seward and husband Mark, and son Charles Tobin Black and wife Debbie Black. Sister Beverly Taylor of Eagle Lake who called her "Sissie"; grandchildren; Ty, Travis, and wife Holly and Tiffany Black, Cameron Wallis, and Maren and Aaron Baker; great-grandchildren include Taylor and Avery Black, Braedon, Andrew, Sydney, Seth, Emily Black, and Faith, Ava, J.J. Baker, and Jace Wallis. A niece Tess Stephens and nephew Stephen Taylor as well as 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews their aunt Sue is loved by them
