Obituary

Thomas Vincent (T.V.) Ashabranner Jr., loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all, died Friday, March 17, 2017, in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was 94.

T.V., lovingly called Pappy by his family, was born on Jan. 7, 1923, the seventh and final child of Thomas Ashabranner Sr. and Margaret Bouchelle Ashabranner on a farm near Taft, Texas.

He married Ruby Mae Langley Dulaney in 1946, and the happy couple raised two children, Lelani and Kenneth. T.V. had a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry, retiring from Texas Eastern in 1985. After his retirement, Ruby and T.V. traveled from their home in Houston across America in their motorhome, making many friends along the way. T.V. was an avid gardener, and enjoyed growing a variety of plants, especially orchids. When Ruby died in 1997, the orchids from his greenhouse covered her casket. T.V. later spent several years in Corpus Christi, and in 2006 moved to Fredericksburg where he was cared for by his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Ashabranner and Deborah Howard. He lived for a time at Heritage Place Assisted Living, where he was known for his thoughtful and loving nature, and for supplying sweets to the wonderful women who cared for him. T.V. spent his final year at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation, where he made an impact on everyone he met. He was a generous man in every sense of the word, and will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

T.V. is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Lelani and Tommy Sinclair III of Houston; son Kenneth Ashabranner of Fredericksburg; stepdaughters Darleen Morris and husband Earl of College Station and Pam Stesch and husband Bill of Corpus Christi; grandsons Tom Sinclair IV and wife Karla of Pearland and Brian Sinclair of Big Sandy; granddaughters Susannah Sinclair Andrews and husband Craig of Cypress and Elizabeth Ashabranner Avants and husband Shaun of Taylor; stepgranddaughters Darla Easterling and husband Marty of College Station, Darlyn Morris of College Station and Katy Madison and husband Jon of North Carolina; stepgrandsons Bryan Morris and wife Shawna of Dallas and Jamie Stesch and wife Dallas of Corpus Christi; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Ruby, T.V. was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings  and daughter-in-law Deborah Howard.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston. A reception will follow at the home of Lelani and Tommy Sinclair.

For those wishing to make a contribution in T.V.'s name, the family would be grateful for donations to the charity of one's choice.
