Vera Lucille
Good
Sep 29, 1919 — Sep 17, 2024
Vera Lucille Good, age 104, of Fredericksburg, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, just twelve days before her 105th birthday. She cultivated a life full of curiosity, enthusiasm, learning, and exploration, surrounding herself with family and dear friends.
Vera was born on September 29, 1919, in Janesville, Wisconsin to Arthur Piper and Lulu Piper (née Fuermann). She was very close with her father, having fond memories of going for ice cream with him, sparking a lifelong love of ice cream. As a girl Vera had a passion for dance, a pursuit she engaged in with her sister Ruth. After graduating from Janesville High School at the age of 16, she went on to marry William Good in 1941 and bear four children. Along with being a loving mother she worked as an executive secretary at the Parker Pen Company, a career she was very proud of. Upon retirement, Vera moved to Fredericksburg, Texas where she was active in the community. She was a member of the Texas Extension Homemakers Association where she shared the arts of spinning and knitting and volunteered as a tutor for the youth literacy program. She was a devout Catholic and served as Secretary of the St. Anne's society at St. Mary's Catholic church. Vera loved nature, adventuring, and camping and shared these experiences and endeavors with her family. She travelled the world and enjoyed studying languages, with an emphasis on German and Spanish. Her home was filled with music when she learned to play the organ later in life. Vera loved cooking and making substitutions in recipes, leading to endless experimentation in the kitchen with entertaining results.
Vera is survived by three children and their spouses, William Good, Dianne and Donald Gardner, and Kenneth and Roxann Good; four grandchildren, Kristine Heller, Douglas Gardner, Kimberly Good, and Michael Good and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, son Richard, brother Ray, sister Ruth, and great-granddaughter Savannah.
Her funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, September 27, 2024. Visitation 1:30 pm, Rosary 2:00 pm and Funeral 2:30 pm.
