Vernon Charles Haverlah passed away on April 20, 2024 at the age of 72 years and 15 days. He was born April 5, 1952 in Augusta, Georgia to Gene and Lucille (Lieke) Haverlah while his father served in the U.S. Army. He fondly remembered spending much time while growing up with his grandparents Lee and Alma Haverlah, Pleasanton and Otto and Bertha Lieke, Karnes City.

Vernon was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Karnes City. He made his affirmation of faith at First Lutheran Church, Floresville. He continued his faith journey throughout his life. He served his Lord and church in various ways and enjoyed participating in Bible studies after he retired.

Vernon graduated from Floresville High School as salutatorian in 1970. He continued his education at Texas Lutheran College, where he met his future wife, Diana Crenwelge. They married on July 30, 1972 . They both continued their college studies. Vernon graduated from there in 1974.

Vernon next attended medical school at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1979. He served a one-year rotating internship at Corpus Christi Osteopathic Hospital, and then a three-year residency in internal medicine at Tucson Osteopathic Hospital. Vernon went on to set up his medical practice in Seguin, Texas. He had an active clinical, hospital and nursing home practice. After closing his office practice in 2006, he continued to serve the medical community in various ways at the hospital and nursing home, Warm Springs Hospital, and at clinics in Junction and Pleasanton, Texas.

In 2007 the family moved to their ranch in far west Kerr County Vernon enjoyed becoming part of the Divide community, school, chapel and volunteer fire department.

Vernon had a long medical battle, starting in his high school years. He had repeated hospital stays, blood transfusions, and procedures attempting to diagnose his anemia and intestinal bleeding problem. Finally, after more than ten years, a series of surgeries greatly decreased the problems, but the effects of treatments led to other problems that continued throughout his life. He never gave up, saying shortly before his death, "I'm trying, I'm trying." His medical problems gave him a strong empathy for his patients and he was always the patients' advocate.

Vernon enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time at his ranch. He truly loved his family and spending time with them. He and Diana had 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother Lucille Novak and step-father Thomas Novak, his brother David Haverlah and sisters-in-law Cynthia Haverlah and Heidi Crenwelge.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 51+ years, Diana Haverlah; children, Jeffrey Haverlah, Rebecca Hyer and her husband Joshua, Michael Haverlah and Daniel Haverlah; grandchildren, Christopher, Jesse, Kaitlin, Jeffrey Jr., Jayden, Zoe and Bria Haverlah; father, Gene Haverlah and step-mother Toni; siblings, Douglas Haverlah and wife Heidi, Kathy Kolkhorst and husband Gary, and James Haverlah and wife Helen; sister-in-law Linda Dunn Haverlah; brother-in-law Nathan Crenwelge and wife Alice; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday April 26, 2024 from 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. in the Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 10:00a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church in Cherry Spring. Interment to follow in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Haverlah, Jesse Haverlah, Chris Kolkhorst, Kevin Haverlah, Jason Crenwelge, Tim Koenel, Myron Uecker, Lane Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Divide VFD, or the charity of one's choice.
